Yep, we own a Corvair also. I bought this car (not in it’s current condition) for my wife in 1985, from a fellow who had good intentions for it. Just never got to go through with it.
We were told about this car, but as a Spider. When we did find it, it was not a Spider, but a Monza. A barn beam had fallen on the rear deck and made a couple of big dents in the fender and the deck lid. Most of the interior was in his house and the top was still good, but smelled of barn. It had 53,000 miles on it and had not been run for about seven years.
After deciding to get it, we trailered it home and started to go to work on it. The first thing I did was pull the top off the engine and oil everything I could get to. Then I dropped the pan and did the same thing. Soaked the cylinders at the same time with Marvel Mystery Oil. After about one week I turned it over by hand. After finding it turned over, I put it back together and within a couple of days, I had it running. When I fired it up, it had field corn flying out of the tail pipe, like a machine gun. Darn thing ran pretty good.
The body work was next. So I started on the barn beam dents the worked my way around the car fixing what needed to be fixed and painted it black. Put on a new top and it was ready to go. What a neat and fun little car it is to drive.
This car was purchased at Town & Country Chevrolet, in Mishawaka, In., buy one of the Salesmen, for his Daughter. The build and sales date was July 1963. It was ordered with a power top and is an automatic.
Over time, I have replaced the top, padded dash, carpet, taneo cover and the front seat covers. This little car is still running today and we are getting it ready for a new paint job and some dent repairs. I have not been inside the engine since the day I put it back together in 1985. Just ordered a new fuel pump from Clark’s (4/2/06).
This is a fun little car to drive. Love the convertible part. Updates will came as I get things done.

And It Begins - The Wife started to sand her Corvair.
Going back to the original color, instead of Black.
Rear Deck sanded to bare metal and already primed.
Need to do some repair work on the already repaired spot, where the barn beam fell on the car before we bought it.
